I have heard yesterday the rumour that PIP may be means tested moving forward and that the PM will mention this in 17 November in his statement. This terrifies the life out of me. Surely it would be discriminatory to means test a disability benefit. also, wouldn't this be incredibly difficult to navigate and what criteria would they use? If this were to be the case, then what next? Means Testing Child Benefit? So worrying .

It was never mean tested and only assessed on needs. I wouldn't really worry about it tbh.1

The minister for work and pensions was asked to give a categorical assurance that means testing of certain benefits would be ruled out.
The answer was "The right hon. Gentleman is inviting me, in a whole host of areas, to break with what has been a very long-standing and quite correct convention that Ministers simply do not provide a running commentary about what may or may not be in a major fiscal event."
That is an answer that has grown legs and run, and is a very long way indeed from it definitely being in the PM's statement on 17th November. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.2 -

We're going to close this thread in line with our rule that this board is not the place to discuss benefits policy, but we'll leave it visible in case the responses are useful to others with the same worries.Official MSE Forum Team member.
