I’m actually using both high street and online conveyencers.
we sold through an online EA,they charge an upfront fee to sell we offered to defer payment but this meant we were tied in to using their recommended solicitors. We then read the trustpilot reviews which were dreadful.  We decided then to use a local solicitor recommended to us for the purchase.  They’ve actually both been pretty good but the high st agent does respond slightly quicker to emails.
our buyers are using an online company and they’ve been pretty awful

if I moved again I would 100% use high street

I have used online conveyancing firms for a few moves personally and been involved in hundreds of transactions with them over the years.  In my opinion they are no better or worse than a high street firm.  Most high street firms also get conveyancers to do the bulk of the work rather than solicitors.

The only difference to me was ease and convenience.  The online firm I use now just sends a link to complete, asks the client to send a picture of some ID. Emails any questions.  Clients can respond out of hours and it gets picked up the next day.  No need to visit offices for any reason.  Most of the feedback I get is on how easy it all is.

You will get terrible online firms in the same way you get terrible local firms.  One of the local ones near me has rebranded about 10 times as they got so many bad reviews.

Looking at reviews is also a bit of a gamble as I've had case handlers in firms who were great and others in the same firm who were terrible.

Personally I would just go with a reasonable cost online one and use the saving to buy myself something nice for the new home to compensate for any service issues you get.  £1500 is a lot of gifts to yourself to get over it
