Last minute trip away holiday insurance needed

Hi
my sons just got his passport in readiness for a holiday next year, however he’s got a opportunity too go away Saturday too Germany for a 1 night work trip.
What’s the best insurance too get please?  He’s not got details yet of which uk airport he’s flying from as a group of them going.
Do they still do the European card?  Obviously this will be too late now for Saturday unless he can get online cover?
Things will get better day by day.

The title says 'holiday insurance' but the post says it's a work trip - if the latter, won't his employer cover him, or do you mean a leisure trip with workmates perhaps?
  • It’s a trip offered by work and a few work mates going.  So I’d say more a holiday than work related if that makes sense

UK residents no longer have access to the EHIC cards, but GHICs are available instead:

However, that wouldn't arrive in time, and isn't a substitute for travel insurance anyway, so he'd be best sourcing an online insurance policy:

Get a travel policy on line with Compare the Market (Meerkats outfit) and he’ll pick up the add-ons, such as cinema tickets, meals etc. Policy will likely have paid for itself with just a couple of pizzas and a movie 😏
  • Apologies I'm late about replying, although I'll still send advice to anyone else. Most travel insurance providers will offer single travel insurance up until at least the day before departure.

Haven't had good experiences with comparison sites and after hearing many bad comments, decided to go with Aviva who have been great.
