I am unable currently to have a smart meter fitted.  Can anyone help with any company able to offer me off-peak rates?

Thanks

  • Hi,
do you have a two rate meter just now?
Is house wired for off peak, or do you intend installing electric central heating?

No - a single old fashioned meter ad I was intending solar and a battery.

Is it a lack of signal or some other reason you can't have one?
A smart meter could still be fitted even if it can't connect to the DCC, but the supplier might want to charge you for it if it won't count towards their metrics.
Can't hurt to ask them about fitting one anyway.

Octopus offer both traditional 'Economy 7' (off peak 0:30-7:30 GMT) tariffs and smart tariffs like Tracker and Agile, although you'd need smart meters for the latter. Same goes for their better export tariffs.

  • Smart meter in ‘dumb’ mode can’t function as E7 so that’s not an option. You can ask your supplier if they still have any classic E7 meters, but my understanding is that the stock of these is very low. They may also charge you for changing the meter.
