Credit Rating?

Options
Retired, tried to get a new reward credit card but turned down due to credit rating. We are supposed to have reward cards but organisation has changed banks, it's a right mess, new ones have not arrived, so we would like to ditch them! We have where possible always paid everything off, we really have not used credit much, mortgage finished about 10 years ago. Advice would be much appreciated.

  • Apply for a "lesser" card as you're not prime material

Also check all your credit records, use the free services - MSE Credit Club, Clear Score and Credit Karma and see if there is any adverse data on there that you are not aware of.

I don't really understand what you mean about your organisation changing banks and new what not arriving - can you explain this?

All that said though, it's quite possible to have too little credit - if you have little to no credit history from the last 6 years, then it's often as bad as having a poor rating. You may need to start building up a rating with sub-prime cards and mobile phone contracts etc, pay off in full every month and go from there. May also be that as you are retired and presumably income is lower, they don't want to offer you the card in question.
