My friend has a job, 5 days a week for 2 hours a day so is regular, been there 7 months, asking constantly for a contract none forthcoming, they have had 10 days holidays so far and haven't been paid for them even though booking as holidays on the system they have  , they have been asking manager to sort, but the owner is ignoring the requests apparently and nothing more the manager can do , they like the job and suits their lifestyle,

Would there be any advice i could pass on, thanks

Well, in the real world, if the friend is only going to be there short term I would say keep quiet then make a claim after they leave!

However, if they want to stay longer term then they probably need to decide which is more important, the job or the holiday. Yes I know that in theory asserting a statutory right is protected so if they were to be dismissed they could claim unfair dismissal without the normally required two years service. However, in the real world......

Regarding the contract, legally he does have one it just hasn't been written down. In theory he is entitled to a written statement of the main particulars of employment (i.e. a "contract") but there is no useful legal remedy for this failing on its own.

Joining a union might be worthwhile. Dues are based on income, so unlikely to break the bank.

Do others get paid holiday? If not, then tackle it together not one by one.

Is it ignorance? An attitude of "part-time staff don't get holidays"? Pointing them to the relevant legislation might help.
