Eon Economy 7

After another pointless phone call to Eon I am really confused about our bill.
We have been charged 59.27p per unit daytime (!) and 28.96p per unit overnight.
And yet when I log into our Eon account I am told that we are on their best deal which is 44.39p daytime unit and 12.56p nightime unit
Eon tell me that the discrepancy is due to the website figure including for the EPG and the monthly statement not - although it is deducted later down the statement.
I find this misleading.
I just wonder if anyone else is on Economy 7 and has similar unit figures?
Also is there any point in trying to shop around for a better (Economy 7) deal at the moment?

... are they right though? ... if you look at the whole of your statement does it show a deduction for the EPG discount?
Before looking elsewhere for an E7 tariff you would need to know roughly how much you use each year split between day/night (kWh not cost).
Depending on how much you are using at night you might be better off elsewhere, but you can't tell without those figures...

I've not yet seen my first bill with Octopus but by the sound of it they are doing the same thing - showing the full amount and then subtracting the EPG discount. Ultimately, as long as the sums are right, it's not going to cause me any issues as far as I can see.

As for shopping around - I was with GE for E7 electricity and EDF for gas - the GE was a discounted fix following the introduction of the EPG - and while the original fix might have been a very good deal for me originally, there was definitely better out there once the discount kicked in - hence I changed. It was a small bonus for me that Octopus proved slightly cheaper on gas as well.

If you are a high night rate user though you'd have to go a fairly long way to beat the rate you have there I'd guess.

Yes it does show a deduction for the EPG.
12 month figures are approx 5500 nightime and just over 3000 daytime - it's a village with no mains gas so all electric everything (although we hope to bring that down with a bit of economising).
My understanding is that there is little point in shopping around for non economy 7 packages as the standard rate is capped but suppliers are allowed to 'tinker' with Economy 7 rates - hence wondering if there was a slightly better deal elsewhere.
