Can 2nd job force switch to UC?

Hello! Can't get through to hmrc as phone lines are out of action... I currently work 20 hrs pw and receive ctc and wtc. I need to take on a second job of 10/20 hrs pw as mtg is doubling in march. My question is: Will this increase in hours/income mean I have to make a new claim and therefore be switched to UC? I will be quite a lot worse off receiving UC so would rather stay on tax credits for as long as possible. Thanks in advance.

No, this is not classed as a change of circumstances that will prompt a move to UC. You will of course need to report the increase in hours/income to HMRC.
  • So a second job doesn't count as a change in circumstances Poppy? Are you sure? If so you've just made my day!!!

I'm 100% positive! You're already claiming tax credits so you don't need to start a new claim, it's just a change of circumstances with an increase of earnings.
  • Thanks so much. Some good news today! I backed into a neighbours car this morning, on my way to the vets where I was told my dogs op will be £500...... Xxx
