Are people exaggerating about the energy prices?

So I wander if the problem with the energy price is as real as the people make it. Some context: I've bought a end of terrace, 3 bed house last year, renovated it, thrown some insulation around (50mm on walls, about 100mm in loft) led lighting etc., we are 2 people living in it (including during renovation), showering daily, cocking most days, using plenty of power tools during renovation. Not to mention that my wife is obsessed with opening the windows for fresh air even in winter.
Now my gas + electricity bill for the whole last year, from September to September, amounted to £700, possibly less.
So I wonder where does the £2500 anual bill come from? I'll probably have to turn on heating in my jacuzzi over the winter to get to that amount.

My bold, maybe why no extra heating was required

The £2500 annual bill is based on 2,900 kWh of electricity and 12,000 kWh of gas per year.
Do you know what your annual consumption is?
That would make it easier to know if you are using an unusually low amount.
Alternatively are you on a fixed deal from a while ago?
If so your bills may well go up quite a bit when your fix ends.0 -
i dont think anyone is ever the average but youve given a few reasons why you might be using less than the average. you just renovated your house and added a load of insulation and are two adults that (i'm guessing) arent elderly.
children. medical conditions. age. where in the country. money to renovate (and not having a house full of stuff while trying to do it). a fairly small house to start with (not a 5 bed victorian sive) all reasons off the top of my head why you might use less than average energy and someone else might use more than average.Almost everything will work again if you unplug it for a few minutes, including you. It's amazing how those with a can-do attitude and willingness to 'pitch in and work' get all the luck, isn't it?
Please consider buying some pet food and giving it to your local food bank collection or animal charity. Animals aren't to blame for the cost of living crisis.0 -
Without your actual kWh usage on each fuel, so one can give you a meaningful answer. No free lunch, and no free laptop

Similar story on the electricity rise.Take a look at your current tariff rates and apply that to the same use as last year then see what that gives you...

The other question is, is your £700 based on actual meter readings at beginning and end of the period?1

Have your bills been calculated using actual meter readings you have given the energy company or are they estimated?Barnsley, South Yorkshire
