Who gets Energy voucher if on a prepayment meter Landlord or tenant?
Apologies if anyone has already asked, but I cannot find an answer. We have very good friends who are tenants in a house, and they have a prepayment meter. Unfortunately due to medical conditions of one of their 2 Children, only 1 parent works. The house has to be heated and there has to be hot water because of the childs medical care and needs. They have not received any voucher, and nothing from the landlord. Although the family pays the top-ups, the prepayment meter may be in the landlords name. Surely the landlord should be passing the voucher onto the tenant? What can we do to try help them?

the voutcher will go to who the energy company has named on the account. if its a sub meter situation (if theres one supply for the house thats split) then it could be your friends arent entitled to the money. it depends on the actual set up. if the supply is direct to there (there homes) meter and they just never transferred the account to there names when they moved in then they might try phoning the supplier and setting up an account?Almost everything will work again if you unplug it for a few minutes, including you. It's amazing how those with a can-do attitude and willingness to 'pitch in and work' get all the luck, isn't it?
Please consider buying some pet food and giving it to your local food bank collection or animal charity. Animals aren't to blame for the cost of living crisis.1 -
Will try find out, in whose name the account is, have a feeling it is in the landlords name, but surely they would not be so horrid as to not pass it on to their tenants? Especially under the circumstances.0

i think it really depends. we know some people who live above a shop and have a sub meter but because the power comes trough the shop downstairs there not on a domestic tarrif and there landlord doesn't even get the 400 to pass on. even if they did theres more than one flat so it would be one 400 shared between them. thats why it matters how its set up and why there name isnt on the account.Almost everything will work again if you unplug it for a few minutes, including you. Tell them to get the account put in their name, since they are the occupants. It's nothing to do with the LL, unless it's a private sub-meter.
All the utilities should be in their name if they are the tenants. No free lunch, and no free laptop1
