My energy supplier told me I'm not entitled to the Energy Bills Support Scheme???

Hi,

I live in a flat with district heating. I asked my energy supplier E.ON Heat wether I'm entitled to the Energy Bills Support Scheme and they said I'm not. Here's what they said in the email (and I'm quoting verbatim).

In regards to the government energy scheme, as E.ON Heat's prices are fixed for 1 year we have not increased our prices, therefore, we have no participated in the government scheme. You should however, receive the energy fund for you electricity.

Is this right? That doesn't make sense to me. Can anybody advice please?

It is being applied to electricity accounts only for everyone. There is a single entitlement of £400, (delivered in 6  monthly instalments via your electricity account).

It is not per energy source, so will not be applied to heat, oil or gas contracts

This is because almost everyone has an electric supply but many don’t have other energy sources.

Not sure about district heating. Could be correct.

They must have thought you meant the Energy Price guarantee which is a discount on unit rates above the regional cap, so if the fixed prices are below the cap for your region (average for single rate is ~34p but can be 33-35p, weighted average for Economy 7 seems to be about 30p) there's no need to apply a discount from the government.

Whereas what you're asking about, I assume, is the £400 credited over 6 months.  If you have a direct relationship with your supplier - you have an account with them and you pay them directly for your electricity - then yes you qualify.  How exactly it's paid depends on how you pay for your electricity.

You are getting the full energy fund paid to your Electricity account, just like the rest of the Country. It says that much in the EON email.

Chances are, if its a CHP or Biomass powered district heating system, then you are possibly already paying less than a large percentage of households for heat in any case, at least locally.

i think that might be this bit? worth checking what they mean here.

You should however, receive the energy fund for you electricity.

It's amazing how those with a can-do attitude and willingness to 'pitch in and work' get all the luck, isn't it?
