Change Shift Patterns -

Company wants to change shift pattern to shorter working week. eg. same contracted hours but over 4 days. Staff will lose premium overtime pay for longer working days but will earn this if they need to work on 5th day, and this will only be occasional overtime. Where do we stand on this, the contract of employment states lay offs/short time working changes can be made and short time working hours can be changed, but not longer working days!

Don't know about the legalities on it.
If you are having to work overtime after a normal shift & they are saying that will not happen as much going forward, as that means they will have to open a extra day. It sounds a bit like they have cottoned on to some slacking to get the overtime.
Clearly they are making the change to save them money as they will not be heating/lighting the workplace for a day. So factor in what the other alternatives they may have if you do not take their offer. Forcing their hand to stay on 5 days, may end up being painful for some or all employees,
But having worked 5 days for 30+ years & then gone to a role that works 4 days. Even if it is longer shifts go for it..
The benefit is amazing. Extra day a week off, far better work home life balance.Life in the slow lane0 -
