Deliveroo cancellation

I wanted to cancel my deliveroo free trial that ends on the 24th before it ends, couldn't do it on the app. I instead emptied the card used for the subscription.
Deliveroo tried to charge me for the subscription on the 24th but the transaction failed. Normally this should mean the subscription is cancelled. But anyway.
I saw that deliveroo tried to charge me again on the card on the 26th another transaction failed, As i couldn't cancel from the app I deleted my account altogether and got an email from deliveroo saying subscription cancelled 26th.
I reloaded my card with cash thinking i won't be charged but to my surprise I got charged on the 28th the subscription fees despite having a confirmation of cancelled subscription and my account being deleted altogether.
I know that I got charged after the free trial period, but that was after I got the cancellation confirmation and the deletion of the account.
Is deliveroo right in charging me?

Did you cancel the subscription? Reading your post it looks like you didn't but cancelled the card and then deleted your account.
If that's the case it's not suprising they are trying to charge you.0 -
Yes, it looks as if they're correct to charge you because you didn't cancel the subscription in time.0

Failure to pay is not a valid cancellation method in most circumstances. You cancelled the account after the renewal date and so were still due to pay for the service. You'd need to check their T&Cs if you get any form of rebate for early cancellation but given they charge monthly its unlikely they do.0
