Thank you all for the comments, which all make perfect sense. Funnily enough, the builder knows our neighbour and was actually chatting to him about this. The vent if it were on their side would sit above a shed they have, with a clearance of a few feet, and the neighbour said he would have no problems if it was put there. .

Even so, for a host of reasons having it somewhere else sounds best - out through the roof is probably the most likely solution I think! Thanks again for the thoughts.
  • So you are asking about a vent going through the party wall?  What makes it a party wall is that your neighbours could also use it to build their own extension - in which case the vent would go into their house which is obviously not reasonable.
I wondered whether perhaps the OP meant a party fence wall, i.e., a shared wall straddling the boundary between the gardens, rather than an actual party wall dividing internal spaces of the houses....

Yes, sorry, that's correct, it's not a party wall inside the houses, it's the external wall of our new extension which sits alongside their garden.

I could tell my wife was bleaching our shower room floor when I was sweeping the steps and got a face full of bleach fumes as I passed the extractor fan exhaust port.
I would also be inclined to vent up through the roof.
May you find your sister soon Helli.
    Sleep well.
