South Yorkshire, modern 4 bed detached, 2 adults. Last October we used 309kWh electric and 482kWh gas.
Had solar panels fitted in March so would expect electric reduction, October this year imported 112kWh electric (also exported 113kWh) Solar app gives our consumption as 243kWh.
We have reduced temperature and length of time we heat hot water tank each day (gas) this year. Also boiler flow temp for CH reduced but we've hardly had it on yet. This October 211kWh gas.
Will see over next few months if other changes we have made this year impact on our energy use, much more off at the plug, a cushion stuffed up the chimney (never used) to stop heat escaping, thermal linings added to curtains downstairs. Heated throw for me cos I'm nesh, will hopefully stop me sneaking room stat over 18C.
Bring on winter proper, I'm ready and waiting!
Barnsley, South Yorkshire Solar PV 5.25kWp SW facing (14 x 375 Longi) Lux 3.6kw hybrid inverter and 4.8kw Pylontech battery storage installed March 22 Octopus Flux electric and Tracker gas
253kwh electric and 34m3 of gas (roughly 380kwh) - 3 bed detached - 2 WFH - EPC E
Similar electric but a third of the gas to last year. It's been warmer her but we've kept the heating off. It's gone on today so real acid test I recon is Nov 22 vs Nov 21.
Yeah. I average about 3 a day it seems. Washing machine and dishwasher run 2-3 times a week. Tv on from 3ish onwards. LED lights throughout but only 3-4 at a time. Water and heating is gas powered.
Not sure really. I don’t have fish tanks or such things. Just a regular household and I watch what I use.
I m only going on my daily kWh usages and they have been excellent..gas averages 1kwh a day with electric on around 4 kWh a day but creeping up a little since the hour has gone back..Total Oct electric is approx 130 kwh..Gas very frugal at only 34 kWh ...Gas will rocket up to over 35kwh a day as soon as the boiler is switched on
.longer I can delay it the more gas kwhs I can use in proper cold weather and still keep to my budget ..I d like to use 50 kWh a day so the longer I hold out the better..we have 20 weeks of winter to go and even April can be bitter cold..Beast from the East proved that a few years ago Large ish detached bungalow in shade of high trees and hence colder than most .
We are using 14 kwh electricity per day (October). Detached house, two retired adults.
We do have two fridges and two freezers ....
Hardly ever use oven or grill. Started using dishwasher once a day so not washing up three times per day. Measuring water into kettle to boil Stopped leaving phones on overnight to charge Nothing on standby two laptops - on permanently, but sleep mode after few minutes One TV and humax box Iron once a fortnight toaster occasional use Haven't started using halogen heaters yet (one in kitchen and one in bathroom)
The large freezer is A+ rating, the other is probably 20 years old so I am sure is not very efficient. I am thinking of turning one of the fridges off as it stores wine. The larder fridge is at least 15 years old I am reluctant to replace it as it still works. I did go and look at larder fridges last week - the suitable ones were a poor efficiency D or E rating.
I still think we are using a lot of electricity per day
Your fridges and fridge freezers will be around 9-10 kWh's a day. At 50p p/kWh this amounts to over £4 a day to run those bad boys. I'd get rid of 3 of them and cool the wine outside the backdoor or in the garage this time of year, and for the summer get in the habit of rotating bottles of booze.
As for fridges/freezer's look at the energy usage a E rated model can use 140kwh a year for example and a D rated model can use 138 kWh's a year. A few factors come into the rating some we may never really understand but size of the unit is something I have noticed, so a slightly bigger appliance may fit into a better rating because it's bigger. So I'd say do the math and make sure it fits where you want it and it's big enough for all your chilling needs.
Last year in October we used 54m3 of gas. About 605kwh
This year in October we have used 28m3 of gas. About 313kwh
A reduction of 48%
I'm not sure why, but our electricity consumption is also down 30% to 160kwh for the month. Perhaps just because we're naturally being more careful. Although our daughter has gone to Uni so that probably explains a lot !

My house does 2kwh a day when we're not there
