Using an mobile internationally whilst on airplane mode constantly

iOS16 remembers your last setting so if you had BT and WiFi on in Airplane mode last time then when you turn Airplane mode on next time it it will leave them on, if they were off last time in airplane mode it will turn them off next time you engage it. 

Even if it turns them off you can turn them back on and it stays in Airplane mode whereas you cannot turn on mobile data etc

Wi-fi calling (and texting) doesn't work when outside the UK using a UK sim (although I think it may work for a particular carrier in the US but I've forgotten the details). 

I could be wrong (but it's highly unlikey) but I believe 3 is the only provider that works internationally.

Where exactly are you going? A lot of UK sims allow use in Europe as if in the UK still...I used mine in France with no extra charges, have you checked with your provider?
