Thanks yes will get her to do this if possible. Unfortunately the account holder is so mentally incapacitated and paranoid that he won’t sign a thing and won’t take any medication, even from NHS nurses, and thinks that everyone is trying to murder him!0

Could be worth speaking to someone at the hospital, to see if they can advise how to get authority, or at least produce a letter stating the husband is not capable of handling it.
The husband's doctor, or secretary, might be able to help.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the In My Home MoneySaving, Energy and Techie Stuff boards. Thanks. Will suggest that to her…. It’s all a bit crazy though in the hospital, nobody has any time anymore!0

Shell won't worry whose name is on the paper -
Or get a man to ring Shell - their security will only ask for info from a recent bill.Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill1 -
The bane of my life: transposed E7 readings. I hope you can get it sorted for them. The T stands for total (the total of R1 & R2 added together). Make sure that R1 is night and R2 day, because it's different depending on supplier etc. My late mum's was the other way round.2

It’s so stupid all this bureaucracy.. the direct debit comes from an account in joint names and she has lived at the property with him for the last 20 years. You’d think that they would be able to deal with her as well as him.. it’s a mad mad mad mad world!0

i agree the easiest option is probably to email a photo showing the meter number and readings (maybe with something with todays date on it in shot). i would have no problem with someone phoning up pretending to be the account holder in these circumstances but i can see why someone might be uncomfortable with that (it is technically wrong).Robin9 said:May I suggest you take photos of the meter readings and send them to Shell by email quoting the a/c number. Apologize for the error and ask for the bill to be amended.
I don't think they will bother whose email account it is (I assume your neighbour hasn't got email - if he has then use his account if you can)
Shell won't just get a meter reader to visit just like thatAlmost everything will work again if you unplug it for a few minutes, including you. Anne Lamott
It's amazing how those with a can-do attitude and willingness to 'pitch in and work' get all the luck, isn't it?
Please consider buying some pet food and giving it to your local food bank collection or animal charity. Animals aren't to blame for the cost of living crisis.1 -
Once this is settled, it might be easiest to simply register the wife as a new occupier and create a new account, rather than trying to worry about a LPA etc.3

I think I’d wait until the £400 government credit has completely gone through before attempting something like that. Unless the account is on an attractive fix, there will probably be nothing to lose financially by opening a new account, so it could be a good longer term solution.Jonboy_1984 said:Once this is settled, it might be easiest to simply register the wife as a new occupier and create a new account, rather than trying to worry about a LPA etc.

Yes..spot on..The OP should first take the trouble to check that R1 is day or night..just see which register advances in the night slot..it will be obvious on this meter because it should default to show which reading is active...So if you view it in daytime hours between 9 am and 10 pm it will be recording and displaying the day units only.GhibliFan said:The bane of my life: transposed E7 readings. Most of the time R1 was day rate on these meters ( Ampy by the sound of it ) but to make sure double check..£85 a month is way down for an OAP per month IMO on eco 7 ..Don t trust Shell meters readers either if they turn up ..They could send agency staff .Better to understand the meter yourself .Transposing E7 meters are commonwith meter readers .not all though before Imeach comments .I m sure he knows what he s looking at1
