Hi everyone,
Nelski, I'm glad you're posting, I hope your hands hold up ok.
dp1, I hope you recover soon, there are some really nasty viruses around at the moment.
TA, good luck with the pyjama hunt.
We've made it up to Yorkshire until Friday - we need to go home for the weekend for Esben's birthday. He will be 3 and is wildly excited about that and also that he knows he'll be getting a new baby sister after his birthday.
We had planned to do some walking this week but I don't think I'll have the stamina for it so we might do some more traditional sightseeing, maybe Saltaire, the Bronte vicarage and the Piece Hall. We also have to make a trip to the Wirral on Wednesday for Steve's aunt's funeral, she was in her 90's and very badly affected with dementia so it was a release really.
Have a good day.11 -
Morning everyone
Thanks for the good wishes and nice to see you back Nelski.
I feel just the same this morning but have decided to get out for some fresh air today - either a short walk or some tidying in the garden. I think just getting a cold this winter is going to make the Long Covid worse so maybes I just have to get on with it.
I too remember carving out a turnip lantern - it must have taken forever - then my dad would put holes through the top and a string and we'd have one of those tall white candles in. I can't actually remember knocking at neighbours' doors...perhaps we just wandered round outside with our candles burning....
When my girls were little they used to make a rhyme up to sing before they got their treats but kids don't seem to bother nowadays.
DD and little one are staying with friends for a few days - she's just been on the phone for a chat...she was wondering if I'd save her some Halloween treats!
I only answer the door to little ones who knock on the door early ...usually by 5.30 the porch light is off...quite a few of the little ones round here go to the school I work at so they all come knocking.
Redruby - your job sounds lovely - hope your two ladies get on together.
Well I'm going to get my washing on the line. I'll let little kitten round the garden while I'm busy. I'm trying to keep her in the garden for as long as I can - I have two sides of tall fences but a smaller one separating me from next door which I'm sure she could get over now - she hasn't tried yet.
Hope everyone has a good day x12 -
Morning all, we had a lovely time at DD's yesterday and DGD was pleased with her presents. Poor DD still has an awful chesty cough and isn't getting much rest so I'm glad she doesn't have to teach this week.
I've been out this morning to the pharmacy to get some cream for Mr Fix It as he has an eczema flare up. Now I'm back the wm is on with the bedding from yesterday. I'm not sure the dry weather will last all day as there are black clouds rolling over the mountain top already 😟. I sorted the fridge freezer yesterday and made a list of the contents, so today I need to do the same for chest freezer, then do an online shop. Tea today will be gammon steaks and cheesey mash. Right off to hang the first load out.
Take care all, hugs to the poorly ones.

Morning...My sleep patterns are all over the place, I'm early, I'm late, I don't know what's going on....Do we really need a clock back/forward now? Today not a lot, got two loads to wash, the sky looks sort of clear ish, I'll give it a go anyway. Looks like it's getting a bit colder here from tomorrow too TA, although my cousin texted yesterday to tell me it was 27 degrees there and they were in shrots and t shirts...climate change is definitely having an impact on day to day stuff. That will also change the way I garden I think, I'm not sure I'll be needing a greenhouse any more after the stupid hot weather this year. And I'd better look into drought tolerant plants that probably don't mind being soaked to death in the winter. Or big pots or something. All this talk of turnips means I'm going to have to google that after, we didn't do anything for Halloween, the odd bobbing apple when I was in the Leo's, sometimes we'd do stuff, but most of the focus was on bonfire night.Nels, nice to see you, hope your mum has a rapid recovery. TA, I did get a pair of fleece bottoms from M&S last year in the outlet which are lovely. Ruby, what happens to the baking they do? do they take it home with them? I'm just imagining you going cross eyed at the thought of one more [wafer thin] piece of cake
snoozer, you sound a bit brighter..dp1, it's such a pita when you can't do what you what to do thanks to bodies not playing along. Hope it improves for you soon [ and for anyone else whose body doesn't want to play] Anyway, enough now, time to up and at 'em.

Well, having done a quick google, I can definitively say that turnips have a much greater scare factor than pumpkins. Pumpkins look almost friendly, turnips look like the serial killers of the carving world....I'm getting me turnips next year.
