That's the carer's element already mentioned in calcotti's post you quoted.whizzywoo said:
I thought that if someone was claiming Carer's Premium in Universal Credit it would stop the SDP?calcotti said:
That isn't correct. Someone claiming Carers Allowance or the carer element of UC prevents an SDP. Someone receiving a carer premium in a legacy benefit does not affect the SDP. A couple can therefore get two SDPs and 2 carer premiums if they have disability benefits and look after each other (as per my earlier post).whizzywoo said:Attendance Allowance would add the Severe Disability Premium to the Pension Credit threshold if they both receive it and no one claims Carer's Allowance or Carer's Premium for caring for them.0 -
Receiving Carer’s element in UC does stop entitlement to SDP. A carer’s premium refers to legacy benefits and does not stop entitlement to SDP.whizzywoo said:

Ahh. OK. I've got confused between Carer's Element and Carer's Premium. Sorry for any confusion I've caused.calcotti said:

What must they know?MouldyOldDough said:
They must know - surely?sheramber said:
How would that work?MouldyOldDough said:sammyjammy said:
What makes you think they will claim pension credit if they won't claim all these other things?MouldyOldDough said:poppy12345 said:
2x carers premium would also be included in the PC calculation because they would each have an underlying entitlement to carers allowance. (providing no one else claims this or carers element of UC for looking after them) The underlying entitlement doesn't remove entitlement to SDP.whizzywoo said:
Attendance Allowance would add the Severe Disability Premium to the Pension Credit threshold if they both receive it and no one claims Carer's Allowance or Carer's Premium for caring for them. They will never be talked in to claiming - as I said "they are too proud" and would sooner sit in the dark ,shivering - before claiming any benefits !They see it as a stigma - rather than a rightI have no idea how much savings they have (could be anywhere up to £100k (although I doubt it !)These sorts of benefits SHOULD be paid automatically
I was just trying to find the rules / savings limit - and this made me wonder why it was not automatically paid along with state pensions
Not every pensioner is eligible for it.
If it was given automatically it would easier to increase the state pension for everybody.
They don’t know what savings a person has.Should somebody with £100k in the bank be given pension credit automatically .In that case it would easier to increase the state pension and save having a separate process and department to deal with it.0
