Looking for free video editing software

I'm looking for something just to do the basics, so combining, trimming etc. I tried using W10's video editor app but it's clunky and the trim function doesn't seem to work properly. I used to use Windows Movie Maker but that doesn't seem to be part of W10 any more. Any recommendations for free software?

Sourceforge's avidemux will trim, combine and convert videos very simply.0
