Waitrose bringing back free hot drink with purchase

  • Rather inaccurate of them to say they're 'bringing back free coffee' aswith  the old system,  you could stop your shopping part way through, go for a coffee and then carry on.
You can still do that in most shops.  There are a few where they're trialling a scanner at the coffee machine to stop people getting one without buying anything - it sounds like you are unlucky that your local store is part of that.

The new way it seems you have to have finished your shopping, get a receipt as proof of buying something and then get your mug filled on way out.
    Not at all the same.
Having now got rather old, I find the chance to have a sit down part way through very helpful.
It's no longer the attraction it once was.
Its been that way for a very long time, even before the pandemic they brought in the rule that you had to buy something to get a free coffee. They removed the ability to get a free coffee from the cafe back in 2015 and made it so you can only get them from the automated machine.

Had a latte a couple of days ago. Can't say it was a huge improvement on what I remember it tasted like previously but it was drinkable and will continue to get if in store.
  • Waitrose now much more stringent on checking eligibility for free drinks!  Before the Pandemic my husband would walk around the shop buy nothing and then get his free coffee.  Now, we only purchase one item per week from our local Waitrose, the Hovis medium granary slice loaf as Tesco and Lidl do not stock it.  Prices of food items there are now so expensive.

Or pop in at 5pm to look at reductions!  And even those now are expensive!

You can hardly blame them for checking if non-customers wilfully abuse the facility.

I agree it's expensive, which is the main reason I don't routinely shop there.

So much to read, so little time.

When I used to go shopping with my mother, she would try to get me to give her a free coffee from Waitrose. I wouldn't and she sulked. I had hot coffee tipped over my lap one too many times as she was negotiating the car park.
