Bay window replacement

Hello,

We were quoted to £1.620 to replace our old bay windows with new double glazed uPVC ones. The make is Rehau with energy efficiency rating of A, trickle vents and mid transoms. There are three panes, two side ones each about 1880x580mm and the middle pane is 1880x1000mm. Is the quote reasonable (being the cheaper of the two we got)? Also, would it make sense to go for A+ windows instead?

The frames make up very little of the total window area - It is the glass that is the biggest contributor to heat loss. So no real advantage between A or A+ rated frames despite what the salesman tells you.

The one thing that will affect the performance of the window is the quality of fitting. An A rated window installed properly and sealed inside & out will always outperform am A++ frame with magic fairy dust filled sealed units that have just been bunged in with no attention to detail.

The efficiency of a window depends on both the frame and the glass - Minimum value is currently a u-value of 1.4W/m²K (1.6W/m²K for timber frames until June 2023). As the glass makes up the largest percentage of a typical window, the frame doesn't make a huge difference.

Quality of installation will make the biggest difference, not the rating of the frame.
