Statement date v Payment due date

I have a Halifax credit card, it generates a statement on 23rd of the month with a payment due date of 17th.
I wanted to change the statement/payment date to a better time for me in the month so I rang CS and asked to shift the statement date to the 1st of the month with (I assumed) the payment due date automatically shifting accordingly.
I was told that they couldn't alter the statement date but could change the payment due date. This threw me slightly as I wasn't expecting my request causing a problem so in my confusion I agreed to a payment due date of the 1st of the month.
On reflection I am not sure exactly what I have now agreed to - will I get a statement generated on the 23rd with a payment due date on the first (only one week later?) or will the statement date automatically change to maintain the time gap between statement and payment due date?
Thanks
