    Have you checked that your phone is unlocked? I don’t know whether this is still true but phones often used to be locked to a specific operator so switching sims wouldn’t work. If it is locked, your current provider can unlock it for a small fee, I believe. 

    I’m no expert on this but many years ago I had to get a phone unlocked and I think it cost me a tenner.

    Good to hear that the Chase UK app works OK abroad.
    I've contacted Starling, Chase regarding changing to a foreign SIM. Starling wanted to know the SIM number to see if was able to be used with their app. Chase said that their app wouldn't work with a non UK SIM....

    Given previous replies, I feel that I should be OK using the apps abroad, particularly via wifi. (I'll be using a house wifi rather than public wifi). I've loaded the cards with ££'s so at least I'll be able to withdraw from ATMs etc without the need to use an app.
