I realize that the end quality might not be great, but if there is a way of capturing from the screen whilst playing, it would be great.

If you look in your Temporary Internet Files folder, it will probably be in there.
I know I've grabbed some in the past this way.0 -
Alternatively, you can use a screen capture program such as camstudio0

For the animation files, .flv and .swf if you view the page source, you'll see the actual animation address, which will also be stored in the temp folder as mentioned above. If you have Firefox get the fantastic UnPlug add-on, and it'll allow you to save what is embedded in the page to a separate file, makes it simple and foolproof!0

If you're talking about flash movies (FLV files), then another great addition for firefox is DownloadHelper (http://www.downloadhelper.net/). Downloads from Youtube etc. are very easy, just click the toolbar icon. It can't yet handle the iPlayer's streaming, but I'm sure it will soonte audire non possum. musa sapientum fixa est in aure.0
