Electrical item bought on eBay does it come under guarantee?

Options
I bought an electric eye pad on eBay. Got the instructions but no mention of guarantee in leaflet. I also bought Armitage sandringham wash basin taps. They came in original box but cannot see the warranty. Do I assume items bought from eBay do not come with manufacturer warranty only eBay’s grantee of 30 days? Thanks

There is no warranty unless it has been specifically stated as part of the listing. It is also worth bearing in mind that unless the seller is an authorised seller any manufacturing warranty, over and above your legal rights, might be lost.

Really depends on the seller. If it a business then quite possibly. It's a traditional ebay private sale then I would expect the answer to be no.

There have been a number of cases where people have bought off eBay and even got a manufacturer's warranty and then a couple of years down-the-line had to claim on the warranty only for the manufacturer to say that the eBay seller was not an authorised retailer and therefore the warranty is invalid

Happened at lot with lazy spa hot tubs during lock down, if you bought from an authorised seller then lazy spa just kept changing them if they failed. However many people bought them on eBay or on FB and had no official receipt and were told to go back to retailer if item failed outside of a certain time frame.

  • Generally depends on the item. I have some items for sale where the warranty is tied to the device no matter who the owner. On other items, the warranty is only valid if you can show proof of purchase via an original invoice from an authorised retailer. Generally if I purchase an item from eBay I always assume no warranty - if I later find it is covered by warranty then consider that a bonus...
