Direct Debit Question

Our energy company has informed us that they are changing our payment method from quarterly direct debit on receipt of bill, to monthly direct debit. There has never been an issue with payments, so are they entitled to force this change on us? They have given us no option in their e-mail, saying either accept the change or find a new supplier.

Comments

  • Yes.  They can do this.

There are several live threads asking exactly this question where more discussion is available.

It's amazing how those with a can-do attitude and willingness to 'pitch in and work' get all the luck, isn't it?

Please consider buying some pet food and giving it to your local food bank collection or animal charity. Animals aren't to blame for the cost of living crisis.

That is the option they are required to give you, sufficient time to switch away is the only obligation they have, and they appear to have met it.
Check EDF or Octopus if you wish to switch, you'll have to phone them though, you will not be able to do it online.
