Travel Insurance DIY Holiday

Hi Folks,
I have Booked a holiday for next year.

I booked a Villa in Greece directly with a villa agent registered in the UK who is an ABTA member, and I paid deposit on credit card, with the intention of paying the balance this way also.

My flight was booked separately.

I was wondering what would happen if the Villa agent went bust

My single trip Travel insurance doesn't cover me for this unless I have comprehensive cover (Extra £35)

Would ABTA compensate me for any of the villa cost?
Would Credit Card company cover me under section 75?

Would appreciate any help please
Thankyou.

You say you booked it directly but then say you dealt with an agent... the use of an agent could put a S75 claim at risk because the section required direct relationships between debtor, creditor and supplier and cannot have a forth party in the form of an agent representing the supplier.

Though S75 may be blocked you could still do a chargeback for the monies paid by card and the use of an agent wouldnt cause an issue.

ABTA isnt my area of knowledge do cannot help on that front.

Hi Thanks, sorry I wasn't clear on the booking of the villa.
My booking was made with a UK online villa operator.  Does this still affect section 75?
    Thanks

I think ABTA only covers package holidays, not situations where flights and accommodation are booked totally separately.  I would take the extra insurance cover.

I'll hedge my bets and say it could do, would need to do much more digging to understand what entities are really involved... unfortunately the CCA and S75 of it is a fairly old bit of legislation and designed when the world was very different to what it is today.
