Closing down a business

We have a business we need to close down. Do you need a liquidation service or is this something you can tackle yourself?

Assuming you have an accountant, asked for their assistance.

depends what you mean by close down and is it a ltd co?

if you're solvent, pay all your bills, liquidate the assets and distribute the proceeds, produce final accounts, pay any tax due, inform suppliers/creditors and then if needed formally dissolve the company and get delisted from companies house.

if you're insolvent you'll need to talk to an insolvency practitioner,

as well as paying any tax due, please check that HMRC does not owe the company any money. A few previous threads from people who have shut down the company before realising they have a refund due, it's not cheap to reinstate the company.
