  • Quote in Kent for a HarveyArc and 20 packs of salt:

  • One sites like Wickes, they sell softeners well under a grand. Is there any flaw in buying the softener and hiring a plumber to install it? Do companies like Harvey's have a superior product or something?

I believe the only thing to look out for having a dual cylinder and one that doesn’t need to be connected to mains electricity (typically work on a timer and are wasteful doing regen cycles wasting salt irrespective of use).

From what I understand Harvey’s parent company Kinetico have some kind of patent on a dual cylinder softener system that provides continuous soft water (e.g. as one regenerates the other can still run) - however you are usually better off buying a Kinetico Softener cheaper which is exactly the same as a Harvey’s unit and getting it installed (minus the sales commission).

You can get Kinetico softeners from Costco or a TwinTec (another Kinetico Brand) which is the same as the Harvey Arc (minus the smartphone app for salt/battery).

Hope that is useful, I went with a Harvey Arc because I wanted a simple turnkey solution - probably paid about 20-30% more though because of this.
