Submeter

Hi
Can anyone help? My son has a submeter for electricity in his flat, he buys electric tokens off his landlord. The electricity account is in the landlords name. How can he claim from the energy bills support scheme?
Thanks

He will only get the £400 if he has a electricity account with a supplier, so no he will not get the £400.

AS @pochase has said - sorry he can't -  there was talk of how people like your son could get it but it appears to have been quietly forgotten.

Does he pay Council Tax direct ?  Did he get the £150 ?

Update from 21/10/2022 for the alternative payments for energy users like your son.

Energy Bill Support Scheme Alternative Funding

This scheme is intended to provide the £400 of support for households across the UK that would otherwise miss out on the Energy Bills Support Scheme – which the vast majority of households are already receiving – as they do not have a domestic electricity contract. It will also support the delivery of £100 Domestic Alternative Fuel Payments where these cannot be automatically delivered to households through other means, such as suppliers. The Alternative Funding will provide the full support this winter, with an announcement on this in due course. The Bill will provide powers to deliver the funding through designated bodies.

Only problem with it is that they are promising a solution to the problem since April, but at least it seems to be still alive and they did not silently let it die as many suspected.
  • Hi,
for what reason has he a sub meter, is it a house of multiple occupancy?

Most likely, the landlord was too cheap to pay the DNO to run in a new indeoendent electricity supply.
    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.

@jo4nne03 Perhaps, just perhaps, the lower capital cost has resulted in a lower rent.

He is however saving around £170 a year by not having to pay a standing charge.
