Becoming a mortgage advisor

What credit checks are done? If I had a ccj which was over 6 years old will this matter? Many thanks for you help

    Also at what point would the credit check happen? When I look on Experian my score is 987

    I think we are asked about the last 10 years. A credit check will only show the last 6 years, so your CCJ may not get picked up on the credit check, but if they ask about a longer period you would be expected to disclose it, part of being classed as fit and proper is being honest. 

    Its not necessarily an issue having a CCJ even if it were registered last month. But it could be. However you just need to be honest about it as to try and conceal it (where you would be expected to disclose it) then raises questions of whether you are fit and proper. 

    Basically - you need to disclose it where asked. That will differ from company to company.

    Anyone can do the exams, people in prison, people with bad credit. 
    You are unlikely to get a job if you have 10 defaults registered last month, but a one off CCJ 6 years ago should not be a deal breaker.

    It depends on the firm in question - whether it's directly authorised, a member of a network etc.
