    I've never been to Brentwood but have lived in Harlow.
    Check the leasehold terms of the flats, should you need to move in the next 3-5 years, I think the Brentwood flat would be a better option. The shorter commute time would be more appealing and (without knowing quite how it works) I assume you would not be bound by restrictions places by the help to buy scheme?

    Thank you everyone for your comments has helped so much! We’ve decided to put an offer in for 1 bed in Brentwood. The lease has 246 years remaining which I think is good and ground rent is £200 which isn’t too bad either. 
    Brentwood definitely is a much better area and feels safer than Harlow, fingers crossed our offer gets accepted!
