Looking for a 4kw system, with a battery and my first quote came in at just over 10k. (details)

It's been suggested it's overpriced, so looking for suggestions on reputable, cheaper companies that can deliver in a timely fashion (this quote was currently 8 week lead time from booking).  Based in Dorset.

Also keen to hear any advice on the spec of the system.  Our annual electricity usage is 3484.7 kWh. We are as far south as you can get in the UK, pure South facing on a tiled roof @ 25 degrees with no shade, so essentially near perfect install site.

  • If i was doing it with my own tools, on the scrounge for bargains and for myself , it'd be £6k .
So with markup on parts and labour just over £10k seems reasonable.

I still think a hybrid MPPT is worth considering, to add some wind later down the line, especially if your far south and near a coastline.
You could then have the option later of spending a good £2k on doubling your output relatively easily from an installation perspective, after you've absorbed the initial outlay.

Would you be able to share the specifications / brands contained within your quote? A pure PV only system using good quality components should cost no more than £6K even today, so the real question for you to answer is "Will I really save with a battery?"

This calculator, if populated with your actual usage, the variable export tariff and the cost of the battery at £4K, should help answer this for you.

    -  10 x 400w LG + 6 x 550W SHARP BiFacial Panels + SE 3680 HD Wave Inverter + SE Optimizers. SE London.
    -  Triple aspect. (22% ENE/ 33% SSE/ 45% WSW)
    -  Viessmann 200-W on Advanced Weather Comp. (the most efficient gas boiler sold)

Feel free to DM me if I can help with any energy saving!

Spec was (sort of) available from a link in post #1  and showed a 4kWp system plus 5kWh battery.

Ooops! I missed that link. Others have commented on the vagueness of "Tier 1" panels, so I won't repeat those comments here.

Here's a very recent quote I've seen from my installer:

    10X 400W SHARP Black panels
    10X SolarEdge optimizers
      1X SolarEdge inverter

All with 25 year warranty. Just under £6K installed. Bird netting, fuel, scaffolding all extra if needed. My advice would be to skip the battery and focus instead on the quality of the component brands being installed.

Screwdriva introduced me to a company who fitted 12 panels, solaredge, optimisers, Growatt thing and growatt 6.5kwh battery at our house in Southampton for £10,245.

If you're perfectly South with no shading you could probably do without the solaredge stuff and go with a hybrid growatt and growatt battery.

How south are you? Where are you based?

https://www.iddea.co.uk/ is a good company in my experience and may be local to you. However, I have heard that they have more potential business than they can handle (like many good installers) so you might not get a response for a quote.

Agree with @Magnitio - Always best to go with a local installer. Let us know if you can't find one willing to fit quality components.
