Modern society with it's "want it now, pay later" has created this problem.
sorry for interupting a good rant (its important to vent) but paying quarterly or monthly by variable dd is the very definition of want it now pay later ;)

It's amazing how those with a can-do attitude and willingness to 'pitch in and work' get all the luck, isn't it?

Perhaps I should have said "want it now, can' t really afford it, worry (or maybe not) about paying for it (or maybe not) when the time comes".  I never buy anything on a credit card that I cannot afford to pay off when due.  If people had not been so profligate with energy that they would not be able to afford at the end of the month/quarter & got into debt we would not all be tarred with same bad risk brush.

My main issue was not being moved onto Fixed DD, but having SSE dictate the amount which is double the cost at current prices of what I am likely to consume in the next 6 months.  Even double what THEY project as my assumed consumption.  And their refusal to negotiate with me on the amount based on a 15 year history of my consumption.  And it appears they are operating this on an across the board basis going by what others have reported here.  Makes me realise now when I was working I should have insisted on being paid upfront at the beginning of the month, rather than after the boss had had 4 week's work out of me & I had had all the expenses of travelling to work.  Silly me!

So the big companies are OK to operate on a "pay us now, we'll supply the goods when you decide you want them"?  Better go down the road & give Tesco a big chunk of cash & say I'll be back for groceries in the next 6 months.

i'm 100% sure tesco wouldn't deliver you your groceries and say you can pay the driver next month.

its already been said a few times that businesses can choose how they operate and customers can choose which businesses they want to use. sse was bought by ovo a couple of years ago and kept everything the same for the transferred customers for a long time. ovo dont offer the type of payment method you want. they have been operating a separate system this whole time. they've now decided enough is enough and they are transferring everyone over to the same system.

you dont like that. youve moved supplier. thats a good outcome for you.

for what its worth we have never had any problem setting our dd to a level we are comfortable with.  higher or lower than the estimate. we have just had to give some kind of logical reason based on meter readings and its been accepted. i dont know why your experience hasn't been the same but people normally come to these forums to complain so its not very surprising that theres more people who have a problem here than people who dont have a problem.
