Leasehold

Ive just received a letter out of the blue from Compton Group basically telling me they want to sell me freehold for £650.00. To be honest the letter is so full of words and sentences that I don't understand its really hard for me to understand why this has been sent and what are the consequence's of doing nothing. Ive tried calling the company to understand in layman terms what this is all about but to be honest if felt like they didn't know either. Im unsure if this is a scam or not.

What type of property are you in? Is it a flat in a large block, flat in a smaller block or a leasehold house of some description?

Which country within the UK are you based in?

Do they currently invoice you for anything else such as ground rent or any service charges?

It isn't anything to do with your mortgage, so you'd be better posting on the House Buying etc board rather than here. But I doubt it's a "scam", and if you want help interpreting the bits you don't understand, it would be better to quote them.

I doubt it’s a scam, Compton Group is a large freeholder or managing agent (can’t remember which off the top of my head).  They own (or manage) many leasehold properties.

For £650, I’m assuming you own a leasehold house?  They have a FAQ on their website about purchasing the freehold
