Standing Charge Increases- Why?

I’ve just changed to UW, how can Ofgem condone standing charge increasing 6 fold for electricity and 4 fold for gas, have the pipes and cables suddenly been renewed or the van fleets upgraded to Rolls Royce’s.
Oct 2019 Electricity 13 pence per day to 89 p, Gas 10 pence per day to 49p. Are Ofgem just hiding the green levy’s and vat revenue within the standing charge now as my yearly standing charge has gone from £89 to £503

Most of the increase is SoLR costs, as well as some increased operating and maintenance costs for the network.

UW are charging you a higher Standing Charge than the EPG (electricity 46p, gas 28p) , but I suspect there is something in the bundle/package that you have signed up for that accounts for that.

The green levy has always included a component on the Standing Charge, that has not changed. The VAT is charged at 5% on the total bill and is not "hidden" anywhere.

Can only assume it's this as those figures bear no relation to those that apply on a domestic tariff under the EPG! Either that or the OP has signed up for a truly horrific fix!

  • I am also shocked with the increase in standing daily charges from Sainsbury's Energy.  Gas was 19.27p now 28.48p day (+48%) Electricity was19.97p to 49.55p day (+148%). This year now from £143.22 to £284.80. How may that be justified? Robbery under a smoke screen.

That happened in April and was discussed extensively at that time.

    Standing Charge Increases- Why?
The reasons are no different to the other threads that have asked the question.

How may that be justified? Robbery under a smoke screen.
The reasons are well-discussed and transparent.

  • To be fair they could have been on a fixed price tariff that has only recently come to an end.

OP has started four threads but has never replied to any of them. I think they just like to vent (or troll for amusement).
