Probate valuations

Hello

I have been made executor of my late aunts will.  I am currenly collecting information on all of her assets and liabilities prior to completing the probate and inheritance forms.

I understand that I will need to get a valuation of her house, car etc....  I have already collected details of bank accounts, ISA's and shares.

Does any know if I am required to value her other belongings including clothes, books and housewears.  I fully understand that if I find items of significat value I will need to add these to have these valued.  However her clothes are mainly Marks and Spencer, her furnishings are over 30 years old and have little value and her books are popular paperbacks.

Do I add an estimate for these items or simply expect that they have little value and dispose to the a suitable charity?
Can I dispose of these items prior to completing probate?

I would just put a nominal value of something like £500 for her chattels.

As for the second question, yes you can dispose of these without probate.

As mentioned above, unless your Aunt has any high insurance value items, eg, a painting worth a few grand or really expensive jewellery, just stick to a nominal value for her belongings and contents. You'd be surprised at just how little value there is in used items such as everyday furniture etc.

Excellent.   I will add £500 unless I find anything with particular value.
