Accidental damage insurance

I have a Victorian fireplace and dropped something heavy on the mantel. The mantel split in half but both pieces are still in place. Will accidental damage insurance cover the repair or replacement? The insurance booklet is not very descriptive. Thanks!

If your home/buildings insurance has Accidental Damage cover then its likely to cover it however its always worth checking what your excess is and seeing how much a repair may cost as often low value claims get registered and either are below the excess or the insured decides its not worth claiming but still has to declare the registered claim for the next 3-5 years1

Yes I have accidental damage cover and £200 excess. Maybe I should gather quotes then, I do t think any repair is less than that now and also if they need to replace a piece of marble then it is even more. But you are right, I may need to consider how much they will bump up my insurance premium next year if I decide to claim.0

Every insurer sets their own pricing so there will always be exceptions but generally accidental damage tends to have one of the bigger impacts on renewal relative to the average size of claim.1
