General thoughts on Smart Meters?

May I ask a supplementary question, as I'm still on dumb meters and have resisted smart meters for various practical reasons.   Can they communicate okay from in a cellar?  My gas meter is set inside my thick stone outer wall, but the electricity is in the cellar, with quite a lot of stone and earth around it.
There is the ability to use a supplementary aerial which could come out of the cellar to be sure to get a signal.  Not sure how many suppliers actually bother with that though.

Thanks @[Deleted User] - is it unlikely to work without this supplementary aerial then?

Can you get a mobile phone signal in the cellar?  It's broadly equivalent.

Just about - it bimbles between no signal and the first bar.  So I wouldn't say it's reliable.
