Euros or pounds

I am a pensioner and I’m struggling with this problem! I travel to a hotel in Turkey and pay the hotel direct whilst booking my flights with Jet2. I have two quotes from The hotel for 14 nights. There are two prices as my holiday overlaps the summer/winter period. They have quoted me 11 nights at €300 per night and three nights at €280 per night. When I asked for the figure in pounds they quoted me 11 nights at £265 and three nights at £245. I don’t pay until I actually arrive at the hotel but I don’t know whether I should pay in euros or pounds. I pay with a Halifax clarity card, so if I paid in euros would I get charged for the conversion back into pounds! I’m totally confused, can anyone help please?

If you pay in euros with your Halifax Clarity then there's no transaction fee - at the current exchange rate of about 1.15, opting for euro payment would be slightly cheaper than sterling at those quoted prices, but that rate will change between now and your stay and nobody knows which way it'll go!0

Thank you for taking the time to reply. There’s not a lot in it I guess.0

If you pay at the hotel the price will probably be in turkish lira and prices in other currencies they are show you now is for simplicity. Some merchant services offer dynamic conversion from the host currency into other major currencies but these tend to be very poor rates and your bank may still charge international fees on them.0

It's a good few years since we went to Turkey and the price for accommodation was shown on their website in £. The place was run by a Turkish guy and his British wife. Guests were predominantly British. Even though the £ was strengthening against the Turkish Lira, the Sterling price was never adjusted so it was a nice little earner for them. I would pay in local currency unless you are being given an exchange rate better than is being offered at home prior to travel.

That's right. The Turkish lira is a very unstable currency so hotels often fix their prices in Euro.1
