New smart meter issues

Hi all,
Well i finally took the plunge and had smarts fitted more than two weeks ago and they havent worked properly from the get go.

The meters are EDMI GS-60B   Gas
and
EDMI e470 type 5533 electric with a standard420 comms hub plugged on top.

Chameleon 2022 IHD

The installer pointed out that the IHD wasnt showing gas data but only electric and assured me it would show both soon but it sometimes takes a while.

More than two weeks later i can see on my online account that there is gas data flow but no electric and the IHD still doesnt show gas useage.

Could it be that the gas meter is not paired correctly with the HAN? If so can i somehow try and initialise this?

I spoke to my supplier octopus and they pretty much just said theyd check but it can take weeks.

What a complete mess smart metering is. Fortunes spent on rolling out the latest kit that simply doesnt work. Id expect it all to be up and running within 24 hours.

Both meters are very close together and i doubt there are any WAN issues as we are in a central urbanised area.

The IHD sig meter is showing full also.

Any ideas ? Thanks

You cannot pair any of the devices without the assistance of your supplier. Have you received ESME and GSME commissioned messages on your IHD? These can take a few days to come through.

Download the free App BRIGHT: if it populates with data then your meters are connected to the DCC Network. You should also check the actual gas meter. The gas meter commissioning process may have timed out: if so, it will show a COMMISSIONING message rather than a meter reading. Some suppliers will talk you through the button press to restart the process having taken action at their end prior to the call.

Finally, the account set up process can take a few weeks. The supplier has to update the two databases and send out bespoke security certificates to each of the meters.

Hi, when i navigate to the messages section on the IHD it says, no messages.
Both meters are showing readings. There are no commissioning messages.
I can see gas data on my suppliers website but no elec data. On the electric section it just says there is a problem and still shows my old elec meter serial no. I'm still waiting for bright to get going.. tnx

    EDIT
OK Bright  data appears to be flowing. If i switch to hourly for both gas and elec, there is a bar graph on each showing useage. I again checked octpus app/website but it shows nothing and an oops message for electric but data for gas.

that sounds like your meters are working as they should and reporting data. so probably you just need to wait for your account with your supplier to be updated with the new meter details? id chase them about it though as you wont be able to give a manual reading on your account for this month as your new meters will have started from 0 so it will be lower than the reading on your old electric meter and be rejected by the system.
Almost everything will work again if you unplug it for a few minutes, including you. Anne Lamott

It's amazing how those with a can-do attitude and willingness to 'pitch in and work' get all the luck, isn't it?

We are an impatient lot. There is a lot more to commissioning and registering smart meters than most people think. If your Octopus account is showing the old meter serial number then the National database has yet to be updated. This can take up to 10 days. The principle of smart metering is ‘one supplier: one meter’. The meters are also locked into the DCC layered security system. For example, your meter will only accept an instruction if it is an instruction that is expecting to receive.

The fact that BRIGHT is showing data just means that Octopus has yet to set up your accounts and to instruct its Adapter software to pull data from your meters.

Thanks, ill be more patient :)

I just expect that new digital toys will work properly and fairly quickly. I guess its just the system and the number of hand offs.

Industry procedures go back to the dark ages and appear to work on a system of dataflows. With switching on hold, we tend to forget how long it took a supplier to set up a new electricity account after a switch. For some reason that I have never understood, the setting up of gas accounts seems to be a faster process.
