Start Rescue MSE link

My Star Rescue policy with 2* cover expires next month. They sent a renewal for £97.30 saying "We appreciate your loyalty! That’s why we are providing you with a renewal quotation which is a great deal less than the current retail price of your policy!" Yet the MSE link to their site gives a price of £86.78.

I rang them twice for an explanation - the first person I spoke to said this is an excess policy. I checked their web site and the product matches in every respect the non-excess one I already have. I re-checked twice then rang back. The second person I spoke to didn't have any idea and couldn't tell me if it had an excess or not. She repeatedly used the phrases "I would imagine" and "Maybe it's....". Not reassuring at all. I asked if there was anyone there who had any information on the products they sell and could tell me for certain what the MSE link offered. She then thought I was using a different web site and should use their own. I had to explain that the link was to their own web site and that the selection criteria and product descriptions were identical to those if I navigated to the site directly.

The question is, has anyone used the MSE link, and do the policies bought this way come with an excess?

If you are looking at a UK only personal (not vehicle) cover for 1 person at their 2 star level then on their website direct https://www.startrescue.co.uk/breakdown-cover/quick-quote it is £76.86 a year.

No idea if this is a direct comparison to what you are renewing or looked at via the MSE link though.

You may even be able to get an additional 25% off with code 25START2022 at the checkout.

The policy I have also covers my wife, so some additional cost. I emailed their customer services this morning and had a phone call back within 20 minutes. There is indeed no excess on the policy using the MSE link. However, it would be a new policy rather than a continuation, so subject to a 24-hour claim exclusion for the 1st day. The very helpful chap said they could apply the same 17% discount to my renewal price, which bought it down even more to £82.70 and I was able to keep the same policy running.
  • Autoaid gets good reviews.
I have AA family cover, got it when they had a third off.
£176 for 4 people, roadside, relay, home and onward travel.
Take off Quidco and was £21 each.
Its £162 today for 4 people, Quidco £96.80.
    £16.30 each after Quidco.

  • How did you calculate the £16.30 each after Quidco? £96.80/4 is £24.20.

  • How did you calculate the £16.30 each after Quidco? £96.80/4 is £24.20.

    AA £162.00 - £96.80 Quidco = £65.20 / 4 = £16.30 each.
