Google Translate icon

Last week I noticed there was an icon for translating the current webpage on my Chrome browser.
This was close to the star icon for making a bookmark.
I hadn't done anything to put it there.

This week, that icon would be very useful, but it is no longer there.
I have looked under Settings but couldn't see anything there.
An internet search found a couple of youtube videos, but these were inappropriate.

How can I get this icon onto the browser?

Doesn't it just pop up when there's something on the page that require translating? For example, try loading up amazon.de and it should appear.

I don't think so, as I haven't downloaded any extensions.

I didn't think so, but I've tried a few websites and it is working as you said, except that the icon is different.
I made a wrong assumption last week that it was the Google translate icon (can a Windows update download the Bing translator?).

I was also confused because of a large prominent text box covering about half of the screen. Google translate didn't change the text in this box, but had translated the other parts of the page.
Is there a technical issue that means that text boxes aren't translated?
