Switch back to fixed price tariffs

I was advised by British Gas to switch to the standard tariff when the energy cap was to be fixed for 2 years. since the u turn by the govt it's only going to be until April 2023. Should I switch back to my original fixed price which is no where near the predicted increase to the standard tariff ?

You are probably not able to, but you can always ask if you think that after having run the numbers it makes sense to.
  • I don't think energy companies are allowed to advise, they just give you the relevant information as to which tariff is cheapest, the decision is yours.

It's highly unlikely that you be able to move back if the tariff is no longer on general sale.

Some people have posted in other threads that they have been able to revert to previous fixed tariffs, with varying degrees of 'pushiness' being required. So long as everyone on the fix wasn't forced to switch the tariff will still exist somewhere within the energy companies IT system.

Whether it is a good idea to try to switch back or not will very much depend on the details of the fix, and an individual's personal usage. Also, there can be no certainty over any decision as frankly nobody knows what will happen come April, or indeed if this currently relevant time-frame may change again when we have a new Prime Minister.
