Writing a Codicil to a Will

Thank you we will keep that in mind, going forward.Keep_pedalling said:
If you don’t have any suitable family or friends who could act as executors, then your better option is to appoint each other as executors with the solicitor as back-up. Do you have lasting powers of attorney in place? If not that should be near the top of your to do list.
We have arranged LPA Finance and Health and Wellbeing just this week and are waiting to speak to work colleagues on Monday to ask them if they are willing to sign for us as appropriate.1 -
I think you definitely do need new Wills. At present on second death the intestacy rules would be followed - are those anything like the outcome you would be happy with? I have to say my first Will was made to ensure my estate didn’t go to those who would have inherited under intestacy - a bit of a negative motivator but a strong one.Linda32 said:
I've thought myself this morning, that it would be simpler to write new wills. Detailing what should happen on the second death. I believe our wishes would be different as far as leaving money to Charities etc. Leaving money to family members I think would be similar. Also if your deliberations on this do bring up one person who you would like a significant proportion of the estate to go to maybe think about making them the executor. I feel that would be preferable to appointing solicitors as executors.3 -
As you are not married, the beneficiaries under intestacy would be very different depending upon who dies second, so another vote for complete new Wills here.3

Digital as in word or some other format that gets printed off for signing.Linda32 said:
The Wills are on paper, we hold a copy and the Solicitor holds a copy. I've no idea how to make them digital.getmore4less said:If the will is in digital form no need for codicil just change and reprint get witness
If not digital good time to make it digital.
If your current wills don't cover second death good time for a rethink.
This is the problem, they do not cover the second death.

No it isn't the outcome I would want at all. Thank you, a new set of wills is the way forward.poppystar said:

A portion yes, but not the whole lot. Assuming I am the second death and anyone younger than me is still alive.0 -
Just to double check, the reference to "colleagues signing" isn't in relation doing some sort of DIY will?Linda32 said:

Please go to a proper solicitors for this - the "plush ones" in town might not actually be as expensive as you fear.0 -
