Got home today after a couple of days away so I think I have a good picture of "default" use. I don't think ~2kwh is bad (ignore Monday, we were there for the morning), thats just ff, routers and alarm/camera system, all else should have been off at the wall.

3 bed semi with a family of 4.
Our IHD will read about 400-500Wh when read first thing in the morning (about 7 am), provided everyone was in bed by midnight, so 1.5kWh a day which is the best indication of 'standby' usage.
Actual usage has been averaging 6kWh a day, not counting the solar as that's only been a week. (down from 10 before we started paying close attention) with gas only used for heating and hot water.

While we were on holiday and everything but the fridge and alarm was off, it was 570Wh a day.

2kWh/day is about 85 watts average - not bad at all!

  • I’ve just started to monitor electricity phantom loads on my IHD. Currently reading 350w usage, without switching off at the plug. No lights, heating or tvs on. Switching everything off, including house alarm, fridges and freezers, anything I can find. Minimum is 85w.
Our daily usage is 16-20kwh, which I think is way too high. Our heating is gas, and no electric car etc.
    HELP!

With only the alarm system, American style fridge freezer, combi boiler (no gas used), timer controlled light and external PIR light powered, we averaged 1.8kWh per day while away. In normal use, we average about 10kWh per day.

  • In my late Mum's empty flat, the daytime usage is currently approx. 3kwh per week. That's for a fridge (no freezer) and a cordless phone.

The night time usage (one storage heater on at it's minimum setting) is still 13kwh per night!  It's only on enough to take the chill off the room.

In comparison, when she used all the heaters and usual daytime use: 50kwh per night and about 6kwh per day.  If she was still alive, god knows what her bills would be this winter!

    £169 per month electricity
    £0 gas

Large koi pond and hot tub.

Also, we have Alexis in every room, smart plugs and smart bulbs everywhere so they will always use a little residual power

Know this because we were away for a whole month that corresponded with the billing cycle.

Think in kWh, not monetary amounts, to give any meaning to that. Presumably you're not including the standing charge if you say zero cost for gas.

Only three items are connected, medium sized Bosch fridge freezer, set at 8c/-16c, the control unit for the electric garage door and the gas central heating boiler.

Usage is around 0.8 to 0.9 kWh per day without the boiler having fired up in the last week.
