Cleaning walls above radiators

On some walls in my house, over the years I've got some of those dirty marks you get above the radiator. They sort of look like scorch marks but are probably just the dust and grime coming up from the rad and marking the walls. Is there anything I can use that's strong enough to remove the marks but not so much as to take the emulsion paint with it or am I looking at having to bite the bullet and repaint the walls?

You could try Sugar Soap. However, in my experience this doesn't always fully clean the wall. It simply gets the worst off so that it doesn't mix with the paint and make it duller.

You will probably have to paint the wall to get the best result.

To avoid it happening in future you could consider fitting radiator shelves above the radiators, which help push the warm air into the room and away from the wall.
