IHD updating new tarrif

Hello. My fix is no more and I am now on the variable rate which is huge. I have only a certain amount of money I can use each day but looking at the IHD it is not using the new rates being charged - I know this as I am having to triple what is there. I understand that I can do it manually but it is not easy for me and each time I do it I am worried again especially now I am looking at perhaps no caps at all and now having to try and budget for next year at thousands. I have cut all I can cut so far in all areas and we are very frugal but I am still worried. When do you think the IHD will be updated for the right unit costs or do I have to do something to the IHD to make it update?

Your supplier sends tariff details to your smart meter, and they are then displayed on your UHD.
How long has it been since your fixed rate ended? It quite often takes a couple of weeks for the update to happen, but if it's been a couple of months you might want to ask your supplier to re-send the data.

3 weeks since 1 Oct EPG price increase and my gas tariff has not changed on my IHD, electric is on a fixed tariff below EPG so wont change. I doubt whether BG will still be charging the lower gas tariff.

If you want to calculate this manually it is best to use the daily kWh figure multiplied by the cost per kWh, and then add on the daily standing charge. I'm saying this as I suspect your comment about tripling what you see is likely also tripling the standing charge and so making things seem worse than they are.

i know this sounds silly but would powering it completely off and putting it away for a few days then turning it back on force it to update/refresh?
Almost everything will work again if you unplug it for a few minutes, including you. Anne Lamott

It's amazing how those with a can-do attitude and willingness to 'pitch in and work' get all the luck, isn't it?

Unfortunately not. The IHD pulls the data from your smart meter and you need your supplier to send updated tariff data to this.
  • Eon next updated my gas tarrif as it was wrong. I went on the chat and she said it could take up to 24 hours but it updated in an hour. It was very easy.

British Gas twitter reply indicates they cant force tariff update and just have to wait,

Thanks for confirming those details. I've had a look at your account and can see that your Gas & Electricity meters are communicating with our systems as we are receiving regular readings which are used to bill your account to date. The monitor will be updated automatically, sorry this hasn't happened yet, there is no way to force an update on the monitor manually. The monitor will update in due course. Thanks, Imran
