Edf and I am nearly at the end of my contract

They have given me my calculations for next year.

Electricity calculated at 8405 kwh, close to what I used this year so that's okay, kwh cost has doubled but I expected that.

Now for the gas.
They are calculating that I will use 6500 kwh.
But I inly used 672, six hundred and seventy two in this contract.

So a massive impact on my monthly direct debit.which has gone from 90 pounds to 199.

For now could I just have your thought .

make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

Unit costs and standing charges for your plan at the moment and what you’ll be moving on to?
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

You only used 672 kWh in a year?  That doesn't seem like a lot.  Are you sure it wasn't 672 units on the meter (which are not kWh)?

If your electricity usage is really over 8000 kWh, that would cost £2800 by itself at the new rates - or over £230 per month, which your new direct debit would not cover.

I think you need to check your figures.

as sparky has said the first thing i would suggest would be you double check if that 672 is units on your meter or kwhs

electric meters record in kilowatts directly but gas meters are either in cubic feet/ft3 or meters/m3  (smart meters are almost always cubic meters) and you have to convert.

if that's your gas units and not usage and if it's m3 then you would actually have used more than 6700kwh which is about what they're estimating.

I am quoting the figure of 672 from the edf phone call this morning.

We use very little gas, 25 minutes,  two or 3 times a month for a tank full.
That's it apart from the pilot light

What does your gas meter read today, and what did it read a year ago?

it could be that you use very little gas, but the 'average' is about 12000kw a year (which is why everyone here is struggling to understand quite how little you say you use). you say theres a pilot light but even a pilot light burns gas every day and can use 2-4kw of gas every day which would be more than you say you use of the whole year...

average electric use is only 3000kw a year so you use more than double (because if electric heating i guess?) so maybe even your supplier is struggling to understand your split and thats why they've estimated it higher.

but even with the gas being over estimated. as sparky has pointed out your electric use of 8000kw a year should cost more than you say your dd is being set at.

unless they are calculating it at your current rates and not the rates you would be paying once your fix ends? or are they offering you a new fix? if they are it would help if you could share the rates because at the moment all the different bits dont really add up and i'm just confused (easily done :))

I think I will give them a ring tomorrow again.
It was difficult phone call, we were both having difficulty understanding each other. Thanks for your help .

Just had a conversation on Chat and all sorted .
Seems projections were a little over , but the lad I spoke to this morning didn't make a lot if sense. Ii was the 600 odd units stated  that threw me into a spin.

    Thanks all for your help.
